National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) was awarded “The Best Agency In Protecting Films’ IP” at the prestigious 2020 Lang International Corporate Titan Awards (LICTA), which recognizes the agency's outstanding efforts in combating film piracy and protecting intellectual property rights. The award was presented by YB Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, Minister of KPDNHEP.
Established in June 1981, FINAS is a government agency and regulatory body authorized by the Malaysian National Film Development Act, operating under the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia. Its main responsibility is to promote, cultivate and advance the development of Malaysia's film industry through various strategies.
FINAS has implemented strategies to grant intellectual property (IP) to production companies and establish a digital piracy task force to combat film piracy comprehensively. These efforts and achievements have been recognized and commended by LICTA, showcasing FINAS' positive image and reputation in protecting intellectual property rights.
The award not only acknowledges FINAS' outstanding performance in protecting intellectual property rights but also demonstrates the Malaysian government's commitment to the development of the film industry. In addition, LICTA provides subsequent resource integration, government visits, and training activities to help companies develop further.
YBrs. Tuan Zakaria Abdul Hamid, Chairman of FINAS, received the award on behalf of the agency and expressed its commitment to continue making contributions to the development of Malaysia's film industry. Furthermore, he stated in an interview with LICTA that FINAS will provide a total of RM550 million in aid to subsidize the filming expenses of filmmakers, TV industry personnel, creative fields, documentary, short film, and drama talents, bringing great benefits to these groups.
