The Sugar Hill Choir Presents a Free Community Concert on April 22 and 23

By: PRLog

Jesus Christ - What a Beautiful Name is a family friendly event

SUWANEE, Ga. - April 18, 2023 - PRLog -- https://youtu.be/_EeSQjKYTfs

The Sugar Hill Choir of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints  presents their 19th annual spring concert themed, Jesus Christ - What a Beautiful Name.

The concert will be held at 7 p.m. on April 22 and 23 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The church is located at 4833 Suwanee Dam Road, adjacent to North Gwinnett High School in Suwanee, Ga. No ticket is necessary for the free concert performed by nearly 90 singers and musicians.

Selection of this year's theme was a reversal process of past concerts. The choir board was drawn to pick songs about the many names and roles of Jesus Christ and then determine the theme. "Each piece we are singing represents the name of Christ which easily led us to the theme, Jesus Christ - What a Beautiful Name." reflected Choir Director Jim Carter of Gainesville. "So many pieces of beautiful music have been written about Christ, which made it hard to narrow our choices. We are looking forward to uplifting those in attendance and know the evening will have something for everyone."

The choir will sing a variety of classical and modern pieces such as All Creatures of Our God and King, Pilgrim Song, and What a Beautiful Name. The evening also will feature several instrumentalists and a children's choir.

"Our choir board received a confirmation that we had selected the right theme after hearing from our President Russell M. Nelson who encouraged listeners from around the world to learn more about Christ's atonement, love, mercy, doctrine and restored gospel of healing and progression," said Carter who referred to the talk Nelson gave during the Church's 197th bi-annual world-wide general conference held April 1 and 2, 2023.

Nelson, who is 98 and is considered the prophet, seer and revelator for 17-million members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was recognized April 13 in Atlanta with the first-ever Ghandhi-King-Mandela Peace Prize at the World House Interfaith and Interdenominational Assembly held at Morehouse College's Martin Luther King, Jr.'s International Chapel.

The Rev Dr. Lawrence Edward Carter Sr., dean of the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel, presented Nelson with the award and among other things, acknowledged his tireless efforts to build bridges of understanding, rather than create walls of segregation.

The award is timely to the upcoming concert with Nelson's efforts reflecting one of the many roles of Christ that will be celebrated in song and spoken word at the 2-night concert. Attendees are invited to stay for the cookie reception immediately following each performance.
