By: Get News

Pembroke Pines, FL - Housing Foundation of America, Inc., a nonprofit housing counseling organization (“HFA”), announced today the Grand Opening of a new branch, located at 1717 N. Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311. With the opening of this office, HFA’s branches add up to six, with other locations throughout the Tri-County area in South Florida.

The branch will be centrally located in downtown Fort Lauderdale, within the building of Handy, Inc. HFA and Handy will collaborate together to assist the residents of Fort Lauderdale. HFA will implement all its knowledge and experience gained through over 15 years of providing counseling services to the community and making homeownership achievable. Among the counseling services that HFA will provide are pre-purchase home buyer education and counseling; foreclosure prevention counseling; post purchase; home maintenance counseling and; for those 62 and older, reverse mortgage counseling.

As a resident of Fort Lauderdale for over twenty years, I am very excited about assisting the community I live in and try to promote homeownership for those that may need housing counseling the most”, said Marilyn Gallington, HFA Community Outreach and Branch Manager.

HFA is a nonprofit housing counseling organization approved by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (“HUD”) as a multi-state housing counseling agency with offices in Florida and North Carolina.  HFA’s vision is to assist consumers in achieving sustainable affordable homeownership through financial education. Since its inception in 2005, HFA has assisted over 40,000 families seeking homeownership. HFA offers group education both virtually and in person, as well as one-on-one counseling via telephone or in person. During a one on one session, HFA’s housing counselors will review the client’s household budget, do a soft credit pull, and determine affordability. Consumers will receive a written action plan to be able to achieve their housing needs.

"The opportunity to partner with a great nonprofit organization like Handy, Inc. and have a physical presence on the East side of Broward County will allow HFA to increase capacity and reach new clientele that may not have had the means to reach us otherwise”, said Jeremy Montanti, HFA Executive Director. "It will also allow HFA to assist the employees at Handy, Inc. that seek homeownership opportunities”.

For more than 3 decades, HANDY, Inc. has helped transform the lives of over 55,000 children and family members. They focus on the development of youth towards independency via its L.I.F.E program, which provides hands-on life skills training, independent living assistance, youth development services, mentoring linkages and facilitation, employability skills training and placement, individual case management, educational tutelage and access to major colleges and vocational institutions.  Together with HFA, the goal is to have combine resources under one building to better service the residents of Broward County.
