SPI Energy aims to expand solar plant to be first in nation with 1 gigawatt of annual manufacturing capacity

Sacramento-based solar panel manufacturer SPI Energy Co. Ltd. hopes to be the first factory in the country to reach a 1-gigawatt annual manufacturing capacity, Chief Operating Officer Hoong Khoeng "HK" Cheong said during an event at the plant Thursday.
