Xiamen Jimei is the hometown of Mr. Chen Jiageng, the “flag of overseas Chinese and the glory of the nation”, and the most beautiful overseas Chinese township. On the morning of September 16, hosted by the People’s Government of Jimei District, Xiamen City, undertaken by Jimei District People’s Government Overseas Chinese Affairs Office and Jimei District Overseas Association, implemented by Tianxia Hengzai Culture Development Co. and Chinese Toutiao Media Co., “Jimei investment at the right time from perspective of overseas Chinese – Jimei District international cloud investment video link activities ” was held. More than 30 people attended the meeting, including Hong Qingyan, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of Jimei District, Minister of the United Front Work Department and President of the Overseas Chinese Association of Jimei District, and Zheng Xiaoyan, Vice District Mayor of Jimei District People’s Government.

Xie Lefeng, the Executive Vice Minister of the United Front Work Department of the Party Committee of Jimei District, Director of the District Overseas Chinese Affairs Office and Director of the Xiamen Overseas Chinese Association, presided over the meeting and introduced that Xiamen Jimei is the hometown of Mr. Chen Jiageng, the “flag of the overseas Chinese and the glory of the nation” and the most beautiful overseas Chinese town. Through this event, we will show the economic and social development achievements of Jimei District and demonstrate the good business environment of Jimei District. In this way, we will further strengthen the ties with overseas Chinese and overseas Chinese businessmen, enhance mutual relations, strengthen cultural confidence and the sense of identity and belonging to the motherland; at the same time, we will also give full play to the role of a bridge for overseas Chinese and promote foreign exchanges and cooperation.

An overseas branch was set up and 27 overseas leaders, overseas associations and overseas Chinese media from 16 countries and regions on five continents were invited to attend the event online.

At the event, Zheng Xiaoyan, Deputy District Mayor of Xiamen Jimei District People’s Government, said that under the leadership of Mr. Chen Jiageng, Jimei started its modernization and to this day, Jimei not only has two national-level Taiwanese investment zones, but also is a provincial-level pilot of reform to promote cross-strait integration and development of counties. Jimei is also the agglomeration area of Haixi software and information service industry and the center of machinery and equipment manufacturing industry, and for two consecutive years, the city ranked first in the evaluation of the business environment. The solid industrial foundation, beautiful ecological environment, perfect urban support and abundant innovative elements will surely bring new opportunities and new stages for overseas Chinese businessmen to realize their ambitions, further their career and fulfill their dreams. We sincerely invite overseas Chinese businessmen to visit Jimei frequently, hoping that the overseas Chinese businessmen will grasp the opportunities of the times, give full play to their unique advantages such as strong economic strength, rich intellectual resources and extensive business contacts, and actively invest in businesses, innovate and start businesses, so as to strive a better future for the humanities in Jimei. At the conference, Cai Rosa, the president of Xiamen Haisi Charity Association and a Filipino Chinese in her eighties, profoundly shared her own entrepreneurial story in Jimei District, saying that she came from Hong Kong in the 1990s to start her own business in Jimei, where was then just a small fishing village. Nowadays, she is quite moved to see the great changes in Jimei District. Through the video link event, she hopes to carry forward the spirit of Jiageng and encourage more overseas Chinese to come to Jimei to invest and further businesses.

Wang Xin, an overseas Chinese youth in Jimei District, said with emotion, “The spirit of Jiageng is forever passed down, ‘treat people with sincerity, deal with things with perseverance’, and the words sincerity and perseverance are hidden in my heart. My elders said ‘the place where you see red brick roofs is home, remember to come back no matter how far you are’. The characteristic Jia Geng architecture enables me to recognize the direction of home immediately even if I walk far away.” He added that after graduating from school in Macao, he will return to his hometown Jimei to start his own business, looking for more opportunities to develop and committing himself to the work of the Young Generation Chamber of Commerce, which allows expatriate youth and young people to exchange and share their experiences in cooperation. Nowadays, there are more and more young talents flocking to Jimei. Jimei District not only has a large number of young talents who are upright and striving, but also is a place for these young talents to build their dreams. It not only has the attraction of scientific research projects in universities, but also has a very good personnel service policy, especially the rapid development of Ruansan district, so that young people also find a fertile ground for innovation and entrepreneurship.
