Twitter – Meet The New Boss…Same As The Old Boss – And I Am Pretty Sure We WILL Get Fooled Again

I have ‘The Who’, specifically ‘Won’t Be Fooled Again‘ in my head this morning (it is 4-30 am here in The Bahamas) as I write. Elon Musk has gotten the approval from Twitter’s board to fire them. I am sure the fine Twitter board people will flock to other technology boards (pun intended) where they also do not use the products. As for Twitter…good riddance for now as a public company.

They sucked at it. I don’t care why anymore.

I love Twitter. It inspired Stocktwits. YouTube and Twitter inspired our firm name ‘Social Leverage‘ I invested in Tweetdeck and Bitly and Betaworks because of Twitter. Twitter helped me build my network and I do not really need anything from Elon Musk or the board or Jack to keep loving and using Twitter.

I of course have pinged Elon Musk – on Twitter of course – that I would be happy to download him on a few ideas (circa 2007) that would still work today.

Back in 2018 I wrote (for the 50th time probably) how Twitter could very profitably run the business. It was based on an Elon Musk tweet of course.

Because I do not own shares in the company (I sold the few I owned yesterday), I do not care what Elon Musk does with respect to free speech.

I think Elon owning Twitter for Elon is genius. Jeff Bezos is already tweeting conspiracy theories and the deal is not even closed.

The last guard of business ‘titans’ bought sports teams to flex. They mostly suck as businesses, rely on television advertising deals where you must suck up to corporations for revenue and hope the asset value appreciates.

Elon has his own version of a sports team. The Dallas Cowboys, the Lakers, The Red Sox and Real Madrid all in one. He should be able to tell corporations to piss off and pound sand – including banishing Jeff Bezos from Twitter to whine on his owen platforms (Twitch and The Washington Post).

I really doubt he opens his arms to Fat Nixon because in the end, this is now Elon’s congregation and it is bad business for Elon to share the bully pulpit with another bully that could mess with his congregation.

Web 2.0 is bully chess and Elon is in a checkmate position.
