Quillin Research reports the number of Fibre Channel ports shipped since 1998 has exceeded 150 Million

MINNEAPOLIS - March 22, 2022 - PRLog -- With a focus on maintaining Fibre Channel's position in the industry as the network protocol of choice for datacenter storage, the Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA) today announced its 2022 Board of Directors. Adoption of Fibre Channel as the enterprise storage networking transport of choice continues to remain strong. bolstered by continued innovation such as the Fibre-Channel-NVMe-2 standard with groundbreaking features for increased reliability in the data center. Quillin Research reports the number of Fibre Channel ports shipped since 1998 has exceeded 150 million.

"As products capable of 64GFC in Gen 7 Fibre Channel continue to usher in the next level of storage network speeds, we're appreciative of the leadership the talented FCIA board directors provides," said Chris Lyon, chairman, FCIA. "Fibre Channel has been relied upon for over two decades to be the network transport most depended on to access enterprise data and its innovation and growth continues to this day."

The 2022 FCIA Board of Directors includes four officers and four directors, each with deep expertise in the Fibre Channel industry. The following board serves in advisory and fiduciary roles for the sole purpose of marketing Fibre Channel technology:

FCIA Officers:

  • Chairman: Chris Lyon, Amphenol ICC
  • President Emeritus: Mark Jones, Broadcom Inc. (non-voting)
  • Treasurer: Craig Carlson, Marvell Semiconductor
  • Secretary and Marketing Chair: Rupin Mohan, Hewlett Packard Enterprise
Directors:
  • Jim Yasueda, Teledyne LeCroy
  • Patty Driever, IBM Corporation
  • Kiran Ranabhor, Cisco
  • Martin Skagen, Broadcom Inc.
T11 Chair (Non-Voting):
  • Steven Wilson, Broadcom Inc.
"The use of Fibre Channel over the last 20 years has proven not only its value but also its ability to evolve alongside the rest of the datacenter," said Casey Quillin, principal analyst, Quillin Research. "A prime example is how Fibre Channel has built a stronger foundation with even more reliability for NVMe over Fabrics due to its ability to support the high-speed and low latency requirements for all-flash arrays with better error handling and recovery. Fibre Channel simply continues to be a trusted, secure, and reliable network infrastructure, especially for mission-critical storage applications."

Innovation and growth in the Fibre Channel adoption continues to grow, yet there is a lack of training at the academic level. The need for beginner-level courses as well as more advanced education for professionals has led to a number of companies active in the Fibre Channel industry to step up and fill the void. To learn more, watch the next FCIA webcast on April 13, 2022, 10:00 a.m. PDT live, or after on-demand, titled: "Advance Your Career with Fibre Channel Knowledge," presented by Mark Jones, Broadcom and Michael Klempa, Amphenol.
