Gary, Tom and I are excited to announce Matt Ober is joining the team at Social Leverage. Matt is based in Manhattan. Matt and I connected about 11 years ago at Stocktwits, where WorldQuant became the first customer to buy and integrate the Stocktwits data feed. Over that time, we’d catch up whenever either one of us was in New York or California. Subsequently, Matt became a limited partner in Social Leverage Fund III. Now we’ve brought Matt onboard as a general partner. He brings a wealth of experience in fintech, data and analytics.

Prior to joining Social Leverage, Matt was the Chief Data Scientist at Third Point. He built the data analytics and technology platform used to enhance the firm’s investment capabilities. Prior to Third Point, Matt was the Head of Data Strategy for WorldQuant and was part of their team focused on private investments in fintech, data, and technology. He’s been an active angel investor for over 10 years and holds a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation. In addition, Matt sits on the board of governors for his alma mater, California State University Chico.

It is fun to be working with someone so smart, talented, positive and funny as Matt. Matt set up my one pitch to Dan Loeb in 2018 (Dan did not invest but should have) and the short meeting is the basis of a funny ‘Larry David’ type moment which may never get settled.
