On the 18th, more than 30 young people from both sides of the Taiwan Straits gathered at Cross-Strait Youth Heart Home in Xiamen, to learn and discuss the spirit of the Congratulatory Letter together.
On December 21, 2021, President Xi Jinping has sent a congratulatory letter to the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Xiamen Special Economic Zone (SEZ), and extended his warm congratulations and sincere greetings to the majority of SEZ builders. His congratulatory letter has sparked enthusiastic responses among people of Xiamen, especially those of Siming District.
In this context, on the 18th, mainly the young people from both sides of the Taiwan Straits in Siming District have organized a series of activities to study and implement the “Important Spirit of President Xi’s Congratulatory Letter to the 40th anniversary of the Establishment of the Xiamen SEZ”. This event is not only one of the initiatives to continuously consolidate and deepen Party history learning and education, but also the actual practice of Siming District to speed up the building of a young economy.
At present, Siming District has been speeding up the “four young” creations (the young industries, the young economy, the young communities, and the young city). The young people on the site, have learned the spirit of the Congratulatory Letter and come to visualize the bright future of young Siming with those present, through many activities like youth talking about the spirit, professionals talking about the spirit, cross-strait youth roundtable talks, interactive quizzes on the content of the Letter etc.
Mr. Lu Jie, a deputy of National People’s Congress to Siming District, special delegate to the National Congress of the Communist Youth League, and founder of Chuangkem Media, said: “I am particularly concerned about the content like ‘the courage to stand on the tide and the courage to move forward’, as well as ‘working towards integrated development across the Taiwan Straits’, as written by President Xi Jinping in his congratulatory letter.”
As part of the new media, Mr. Lu hoped that this event could serve as a platform to deepen cultural exchanges with Taiwanese youth, so that more and more of them can understand our mainland, come to Xiamen and work together with the mainland youth to contribute their youthful power to young Siming.
Mr. Zhang Mingquan, a deputy of National People’s Congress to Siming District, senior director of the Public Affairs Center of “Read of Ten”, and also member of the “post-85” generation, said that “The Youth Studying and Discussion is a very good platform for the young people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits to increase the understanding of each other through the learning and talking about the spirit of the Congratulatory Letter. I hope that this kind of activity could be held regularly.”
As the gateway of Taiwan-related public services, Siming District has actively promoted cross-strait integration in recent years, forming a Siming model of “the government guiding, enterprises participating, communities training, and Taiwan compatriots benefiting”, in order to make the place a demonstration window and the first home for Taiwan compatriots and enterprises to land in Chinese mainland.
After issuing the ” Implementation Measures of the Preferential Policies for Taiwan Youth Entrepreneurship and Employment in Siming District”, Siming District has provided actual financial assistance to more than 500 Taiwanese enterprises within its jurisdiction: 12 multi-functional and distinctive bases (like “Cross-Strait Youth Heart Home”) have been built for Taiwan youth entrepreneurship and employment, including 2 national-level bases and 8 provincial-level bases. The number of bases ranks first in Fujian Province; a three-dimensional network and the offline friendship platform have been built through the region’s 10 friendship points of Taiwan compatriot stations. So far, more than 100 couples of young people from both sides of the Taiwan Straits have been happily married through the platform.
Mr. Fan Jiangfeng, a young Taiwanese representative, came to Siming District in 2016 to set up Qida Taixiang Entrepreneurship Service Co. Ltd. With the support of Siming District, Qida Taixiang has set up 8 parks within and beyond Siming District, its business involving cultural creation, E-commerce, science and technology, and sports etc. He himself has also become a pioneer of entrepreneurship in Xiamen.
Mr. Fan said: “We are preparing for the Cross-Strait Youth Entrepreneurship Fund, through which we can help Taiwanese youth in Xiamen with their career development, attract some leading Taiwanese enterprises to Xiamen, and let them know that Xiamen is a hot spot not only for investing, but also for meeting nice friends to help them.”
