The eagerly awaited new release by Michael Mandaville is the latest in a long history of the detective Noir genre in the writing and cinematic worlds. Well-known great movies such as Dashiell Hammett’s “The Maltese Falcon” and Raymond Chandler’s “The Big Sleep” are now icons of the popular genre.

The Noir genre has become increasingly popular in recent years with the release of films such as “Knives Out” and the upcoming “Sniff” starring Helen Mirren, Al Pacino, and Morgan Freeman.

The newly released “A Cold Knife In A Warm Back” is set in 1940s San Francisco before the US entered WWII when the German National Socialist Party was encouraging Americans of German descent to support the Nazi war effort. The main character, Nick Blaine is a struggling private detective who teams up with shipping heiress Charlene Jurgens to investigate a series of arson and sabotage attacks on a shipyard.

Michael Mandaville has also published successful series of books called “Stealing Thunder” based on China’s provocative tactics in claiming territory in the South China Sea. This fictional story was written a few years ago but now mirrors present-day headlines as China pushes its legal boundaries against numerous countries like the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam in this vital shipping area. His novel, “A Cold Death” is currently in consideration as a Limited-Edition series set in Paris. He was recently scouting international locations such as France, Luxembourg, Morocco and Belgium for future productions in film and television.

Michael Mandaville has spoken about how his writing of detective Noir novels has drawn on his experience as a Line Producer on all three “Taken” films, starring Liam Neeson. Mandaville is currently writing a TV series pilot set in Europe. He has worked on “American History X” and also directed two features including “Conviction: Murder in Four Parts” which won the Culver City Best Screenplay Film Festival.

Michael is a Producer and Line Producer and a member of the Producers Guild of America (PGA) and the Directors Guild of America (DGA). He has worked extensively in cinema production and has featured in podcasts discussing the dynamics of the media landscape and the Australian Oceanic Film and Television Association, where he holds an honorary membership. In a recent interview, Michael Mandaville has said, “I have always been a fan of the noir film and novel. They have extraordinary tone and are about real people usually in over their heads in a murder or espionage case.”
