Aussie mum Avegail Gaddi, turned the pandemic’s misfortunes into great opportunity, leaving her full time job to build a business that would go on to rake in $50K worth of revenue in the first three months alone. With Australians spending much more time at home, the online homewares retailer, Pullen and Co. was founded to help Aussies create calm and organised home environments amidst the chaos.
As a mother of one with another on the way at the time, the pandemic brought on newfound challenges of balancing work and family responsibilities that had Avegail quitting her full time job as an office manager. The chaotic period also sparked her entrepreneurial spirit, with time to now consider building a business she’d thought of for years but was never able to prioritise.
Avegail’s drive for a new employment style has not been uncommon amongst women since the pandemic hit. Women-preneurship is booming and the Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise has recognised the key role women will play in driving Australian business growth. About 38% of small businesses in Australia are now owned by women, with that number growing.
Avegail moved to Australia from the Philippines as a scholar in 2012, and found herself working three jobs to send money home to her family while studying abroad. Met with challenge and a drive to overcome it, her early days in Australia, unbeknownst to her, built the foundation of a future entrepreneur in the making.
Pullen and Co. officially launched in June 2021 and by September 2021 Avegail had an already booming homewares business, with $50K in revenue, a social following in the tens of thousands, more than five thousand email subscribers, three times sold out items, and products trending on Instagram and TikTok.

With the support of my tech-fluent husband, I’ve worn many hats as an entrepreneur, marketer, photographer, website creator and logistics coordinator in the past few months alone. I’m humbled by how my journey has evolved so far, and I can’t wait to see what the future of Pullen and Co. holds”.
Avegail is just getting started, with big plans ahead for the homewares retailer.
