The SFC (Structured Family Caregiving) program is a new Georgian Medicaid that provides financial compensation for family members who are taking care of an elderly or disabled person at home.
Financial compensation is possible for primary caregivers older than 18 who live with the person they care for and are biologically related to or related to them through marriage excluding legal guardians and spouses. The elderly or disabled person must also be eligible for Georgia Medicaid and be part of the CCSP or SOURCE waiver program.
Caregiver benefits include receiving weekly tax-free payments, professional healthcare coaching, and practical/written skills training. As per the Home Care Protection Act, caregivers are not independent contractors but Georgian Home Nurse W-2 employees who are covered by bonding, liability, and unemployment insurance as well as worker’s compensation.
Duties rendered include general housekeeping for the disabled or elderly person, personal hygiene matters such as bathing and getting dressed, preparing meals and helping them to eat, as well as taking care of medication and making appointments.
As part of the recruitment and onboarding process, potential caregivers must pass a drug screening test and criminal background check. References and declared skills/experience will also be checked.
