What’s better than one Roy? Two! I’ve got Roy Erez and Roy Rubin from R-Squared Ventures on the show today. The two have teamed up to invest in Fintech, Enterprise/SMB SaaS, Marketplaces, and Digital Commerce. They’ve both founded, ran, scaled, and sold businesses where they stayed on as corporate executives post acquisition. Background. Roy Erez is a former military officer, a former Forbes contributor, and the co-founder and CEO of Loop Commerce (acquired by Synchrony). After the acquisition, he stayed with Synchrony for a while as an SVP. Roy also spent time at iScoot, which was acquired by Qualcomm. In addition, he spent seven years at Cedar Fund, a $325m early-stage Israel-related venture capital firm.
Roy Rubin is the former co-founder and CEO of Magento. eBay acquired a 49 percent stake in Magento in February, 2011; followed by the acquisition of the entire company in June, 2011. Roy stayed on as the CEO of Magento until 2013.
On getting started with e-commerce today. There are probably another one or two solutions to point to, but Shopify is a good place to go if you want to start immediately. There’s everything you need to begin building a business. They don’t have it all though. As your business grows and scales and your needs change over time, you’ll need to look at platform decisions throughout the lifecycle of your business. But to start out, to launch, Shopify is a great option.
