Sacramento-based Dr. Jenny Apekian is one of a handful of women recognized with a Dentsply Sirona award honoring female dentists and dental technicians worldwide
Dr. Jenny Apekian, general dentist and owner of Midtown Dental in Sacramento, Calif., won a 2021 Dentsply Sirona Smart Integration Award.
The Smart Integration Award recognizes female dentists and dental technicians worldwide who work in an integrated practice or lab environment, offering patients “excellent, modern treatment solutions,” according to the Dentsply Sirona website.
Apekian said she is honored by her inclusion among an incredible group of women in dentistry from around the globe.
“I graduated from (University of California, San Francisco) in 2007 and was in one of the first classes to be 50 percent women,” she said. “I’m really proud to be practicing during this huge shift in our profession.”
Dentsply Sirona is the world’s largest professional dental products and technologies manufacturer. The company presents the Smart Integration Award Networking Event bi-annually to honor a select group of winners after its inaugural debut in 2019. Entries are submitted from across the globe and evaluated by an international jury.
“We are using technology in ways that improve our outcomes and our efficiency,” Apekian said. “This comes naturally to us, but with this award, our ideas and innovative approaches are recognized. We are given a platform and become visible.”
History of Innovation at Midtown Dental
Apekian opened Midtown Dental in 2013 with the goal of using the latest equipment, cutting-edge technologies, and the best-practice specialized procedures to exceed the average dental office.
Apekian boasts an all-women staff from the front office to dental assistants to dental hygienists. She said she looks forward to when dental offices comprised entirely of women dental professionals are commonplace.
“I also look forward to a time when we bridge the gap in practice ownership and women performing more advanced surgical procedures,” she said. “It is an incredible profession filled with so many diverse ways to contribute … I can confidently say that I have changed hundreds of lives and love what I do every day.”
