Wembley entrepreneur goes digital to transform employment servicesCEO & Founder of Workscan

LONDON, UK – Nov 2, 2021 – Putting a modern spin on employment and volunteering, a Wembley entrepreneur is transforming how students use their skills to work and gain experience.

Ioannis Antypas has created Workscan, a revolutionary platform designed to revolutionise how students connect with, apply for, and track work placements and volunteering roles as they study.

It is his latest venture after launching seven gaming apps while still at school and even writing his own book – despite arriving in London with his family from Greece as a child and not speaking a word of English.

Never losing sight of his passions, Ioannis, who lives in Wembley, worked hard to get to college where he studied cyber security and information technology before going on to study for a degree.

It was while studying for an Information Technology Management for Business course at the University of West London (UWL) that he designed the platform – which has already caught the attention of a number of educators including his own.

Ioannis, Workscan CEO and founder, said: “I have always been interested in business and computing.  I was the child who ran my own business at school, selling bottles of water and sweets to other pupils. When I was older I would go with my father to scrap yards and buy bicycles to fix up and sell on and then I started creating my own gaming apps.

“When I came to the UK in 2012, I didn’t know how to speak a word of English. From there, I grew up in Wembley and everything has changed. I have studied hard, and have a diplomas, certificates, awards, and now a degree.

“Workscan is about making sure businesses and students can reach each other to maximise skills and opportunities because I want to help everyone reach their potential. If we can revolutionise how things are done, the whole system can be transformed and make a real difference.”

Workscan already has more than 20 employers from across London ready to link their vacancies with talented students.

The platform is one of the latest innovative start-up models to be incubated at UWL’s Westmont Hub where Ioannis is getting expert guidance to take his idea out to market. It has also attracted interest from the university’s placement team to help more than 120 students take their next steps.
