Miami-Based Artist Jonlouis Sends Paintings To Space In Support of St. Jude’s Children’s HospitalOn November 1st 2021, the St. Jude’s team will be hosting a live 10-day online auction for the “Embrace II” piece via CharityBuzz, allowing a special collector to add a space-flown piece of art to their home. The auction proceeds will be going towards raising childhood cancer awareness and supporting the next generation of space explorers.

Miami, FL – Nov 2nd, 2021 – After a 3-day journey orbiting around Earth the legendary SpaceX Inspiration 4 – the world’s first “all-civilian” human mission safely reentered the atmosphere on September 18, 2021. This historic launch also has helped raise over $200 Million for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Upon the Resilience Dragon Capsule, there was some special cargo that accompanied the four crewmates aboard – Jonlouis’s artwork. Jonlouis is a young renowned Contemporary Artist and space advocate, working with NASA, SpaceX and multiple known private Astronauts. The artist is deeply involved in multiple charities that focus on benefiting the awareness and evolution of space and development of our future generation.  His artwork has been featured in International Galleries and Fairs, and has been called a new era of art- futurist and hopeful. Jonlouis focuses on sharing a message of connection, curiosity and hope thorough his colorful and sought-after pieces.

Now 27, Jonlouis Gonzalez is an established “space art” fixture in Miami’s contemporary art scene, and one of his colorful paintings featuring two dancing astronauts titled “Embrace II,” is among a variety of Inspiration4 flown-in-space items placed on the auction block Monday morning by Charitybuzz.

“I think it’s a really immense feeling. Because our whole career is really based on creating impact. And to have this moment of worldwide impact is getting closer to our goal — we want to touch as many people as we can with our art,” Gonzalez said. He continued, “It’s also opening my eyes to how far I can really take this. I look at this moment, and I embrace it. But then I look further beyond as well, like what can we do next?”

The painting’s estimated value is $2,500, and the 10-day online auction ends Nov. 10.

One of the extraordinary crewmates, Dr. Sian Proctor a geology professor and space communicator was chosen to Pilot the ship into the stars- selected Jonlouis’s art to take with her on this unique multi-day mission. Proctor met Gonzalez and discovered his artwork at the KSC Visitor Complex during the facility’s 2019 Yuri’s Night Space Coast party. Yuri’s Night is an annual global event honoring Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, who became the first person to orbit Earth aboard Vostok 1 on April 12, 1961.

Proctor was quoted as saying, “I followed him on Instagram, and I was always like, ‘Wow, I love his work.’ So when I knew that I was going to go up and I could take stuff with me, I reached out to him and I asked him for two paintings.” She went on to say, “great. He’s so talented. It was a no-brainer for me to reach out to him and say, ‘I want to take your art to space with me.”

Resilience and its crew circled Earth solo, zooming about 367 miles (590 kilometers) above planet Earth. That’s higher than any crew had ever gone before, and significantly higher than the International Space Station, which orbits at an average altitude of 250 miles (400 km).

Charitybuzz is also conducting an auction for Proctor’s metallic-marker art piece “Seeker.” This piece traveled undersea to the bottom of the Mariana Trench with private astronaut Richard Garriott and the Titanic shipwreck with space shuttle astronaut Scott Parazynski. Then she brought it into orbit aboard the Crew Dragon capsule.

“I call it adventure art: art that has traveled to extreme, remote locations that barely any humans have gone before,” Proctor said.

“How many pieces of art will ever go to those three places again in history?” she asked.

For both the SpaceX and Jonlouis, this is a huge accomplishment and it marks the new era of commercial spaceflight, giving all civilians the opportunity to see the planet from a different perspective. This was the most popular launch up to date- with a Netflix Show called Countdown: Inspiration 4 Mission to Space, that has received over 2 million views.

Reminiscing on his childhood, Jonlouis said, “Growing up, I was a curious child watching rocket launches from my backyard-  I came to understand that the inspiration and curiosity the thought of ‘space’ brings is immense… Enough to make you feel like anything is possible. This is the type of hope that we want the St. Jude children and their families to keep cultivating in their hearts.”  The auction proceeds will be going towards raising childhood cancer awareness.
