The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Tencel Fabric

Which fabric is Tencel?

Tencel is a new type of viscose fiber, also known as LYOCELL viscose fiber, which is produced by the British company Acocdis. Tencel is produced by solvent spinning technology. Because the amine oxide solvent used in the production is completely harmless to the human body, it is almost completely recyclable and can be used repeatedly without by-products. Tencel fiber can be completely decomposed in the soil, no pollution to the environment, harmless to the ecology, and it is an environmentally friendly fiber. LYOCELL fiber has filament and short fiber, short fiber is divided into ordinary type (uncrosslinked type) and crosslinked type. The former is TencelG100 and the latter is TencelA100. Ordinary TencelG100 fiber has high moisture absorption and swelling properties, especially in the radial direction. The swelling rate is as high as 40%-70%. When the fiber is swelled in water, the hydrogen bonds between the fibers in the axial direction are disassembled. When subjected to mechanical action, the fibers split in the axial direction to form longer fibrils. Utilizing the easy fibrillation characteristics of ordinary TencelG100 fiber, the fabric can be processed into a peach skin style. The hydroxyl groups in the cross-linked TencelA100 cellulose molecules react with the cross-linking agent containing three active groups to form cross-links between the cellulose molecules, which can reduce the fibrillation tendency of Lyocell fibers, and can process smooth and clean fabrics. It is not easy to fluff and pilling during taking.

The advantages and disadvantages of Tencel fabric

Advantages

1. Tencel uses the wood pulp of trees to make fibers. There will be no derivatives and chemical effects in the production process. It is a relatively healthy and environmentally friendly fabric.

2. Tencel fiber has excellent moisture absorption, and overcomes the shortcomings of low strength of ordinary viscose fiber, especially low wet strength. Its strength is similar to that of polyester, its wet strength is higher than cotton fiber, and its wet modulus is also higher than that of cotton fiber. Cotton high.

3. Tencel's washing dimensional stability is relatively high, and the washing shrinkage rate is small, generally less than 3%.

4. Tencel fabric has a beautiful luster and a smooth and comfortable hand feeling.

5. Tencel has a unique silk-like touch, elegant drape, and smooth to the touch.

6. It has good breathability and moisture permeability.

Disadvantages

1. Tencel fabrics are highly sensitive to temperature, and are easy to harden in hot and humid environments, but have poor pick-up properties in cold water.

2. The cross-section of Tencel fiber is uniform, but the bond between fibrils is weak and there is no elasticity. If it is mechanically rubbed, the outer layer of the fiber is prone to breakage, forming hairs with a length of about 1 to 4 microns, especially in wet conditions. It is easy to produce, and tangled into cotton particles in severe cases.

3. The price of Tencel fabrics is more expensive than cotton fabrics, but cheaper than silk fabrics.
