The medical center in Thousand Oaks, led by Dr. Ronald Popper, has launched Bongo Rx therapy using an FDA-cleared and clinically proven technology to reduce sleep apnea events and improve the quality of life for patients and their families. Bongo Rx is a nasal Expiratory Positive Airway Pressure (EPAP) device for mild to moderate cases of OSA.

Southern California Pulmonary and Sleep Disorders Medical Center has launched Bongo therapy devices for sleep apnea as part of its comprehensive sleep medicine solutions. Bongo Rx is a compact pair of silicone nasal inserts that keep a user’s airway open, allowing them to breathe comfortably.

Dr. Ronald Popper will evaluate a patient’s overall health and perform a physical examination of the patient’s airway to determine if Bongo therapy can be suitable CPAP alternative for their OSA. Online consultations are also available via the center’s telemedicine web portal.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a condition in which the airway is obstructed by soft tissue and breathing is interrupted many times throughout the night. Obstructive sleep apnea can have a number of harmful consequences, ranging from daytime sleepiness to heart disease and stroke. When a patient stops breathing because their airway is obstructed the oxygen level drops, sometimes to very dangerous levels.

OSA affects one out of every 15 adults in the United States, or 18 million people, with approximately 80% of these individuals remaining undiagnosed. Dr. Popper recommends the Bongo Rx EPAP device for patients with mild OSA because it does not involve the use of machines, humidifiers, power sources, or uncomfortable masks.
