B Corp Certification Assessment Requirements – Score Improvement Report Launched

New Commodity, a US-based purpose consultancy, has launched a new report detailing what the B Corp Certification entails and how businesses can attain it.

Evanston, United States - August 26, 2021 /PressCable/

Entitled ‘The Why, What, & How of Becoming a Certified B Corp’, the new discussion piece provides readers with an in-depth breakdown of the benefits that the certification offers.

More details can be found at: https://www.new-commodity.com/becoming-certified-b-corp

As an agency in the field, New Commodity also explains the in-house consultancy services it has developed with B Corp in mind. The company assists businesses in the documentation of internal practices that can help to improve B Impact Assessment scoring.

B Corporations form a growing community of businesses that integrate the concepts of social and environmental responsibility, as well as equality and accountability, into the way they operate. The aim of the global movement is to create a greater balance between profit and purpose, and to drive positive cultural change around the world.

As New Commodity points out, attaining a B Corp Certification offers a number of distinct benefits. In the first instance, the standards imposed during the assessment process can assist businesses in streamlining their processes. This can ultimately lead to reduced financial risk and improved profitability, which creates better resilience during economic downturns.

With environmental concerns being at the forefront of many consumers’ minds, an increasing number of companies now make claims about their environmental credentials that are somewhat questionable. The report explains that this is known as ‘greenwashing’, and that having a B Corp Certification is a more reputable means by which to demonstrate an organization’s credibility.

Companies wishing to obtain the title are required to undergo a B Impact Assessment (BIA), which is administered by the non-profit organization B Lab. In order to qualify for certification, a minimum score of 80 out of a possible 200 is required.

New Commodity suggests that this is not as easy as it may sound, with many companies failing on the first attempt. The consultancy’s B Corp Certification support program assists businesses in measuring, improving, and documenting practices across a range of areas.

These include worker, community, environmental, governance, and customer processes. The aim of the comprehensive program is to help businesses get from BIA to Certified B Corp sooner.
