Latina trailblazer will launch crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for pilot website

Erika Hernandez hopes to support Latina entrepreneurs with 'Shop Latina Made' online marketplace

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. - March 29, 2021 - PRLog -- Entrepreneur Erika Hernandez heard countless times from people looking to support Latina small businesses who could never find what they were looking for.

As the co-founder and President of Latina Made Not Maid (LMNM), she has spent the last four years advocating for Latina representation and giving back to her community. LMNM is a nonprofit organization committed to global education on the importance of positive imagery of Latinas on the web and media.

Naturally, she was committed to using her economic vote to support Latina entrepreneurs.

Then, an idea struck: What if there was a one-stop platform for easily locating Latina makers, independent designers, and authors nationwide?

She decided to found ShopLatinaMade.com - the first online marketplace allowing shoppers to find quality Latina-made goods while supporting the entrepreneurs behind them.

Currently, LatinX-owned businesses contribute about $500 billion to the U.S. economy in annual sales. That number would be higher if these firms were given the same access, to the tune of $4 billion in revenue and one million jobs.

Meanwhile, roughly 17.9 million Latinas live and shop in the United States, with that number increasing by 6.7 million with the millennial generation. With ShopLatinaMade.com, the goal is to help these potential customers, along with all consumers, discover and shop unique creative items that happen to be made by Latina-owned businesses.

To get the project off the ground, Hernandez is now preparing to kick off a crowdfunding campaign Tuesday, April 13 to raise funds for the launch of the ShopLatinaMade.com project with a pilot website.

"We are designing a platform we hope will empower the Latinx community to increase their contributions to the U.S. economy," Hernandez said. "Given that LatinX buying power is estimated around $1.7 billion, we felt the time had come to create a robust and comprehensive resource for these buyers to support Latina entrepreneurs."

According to Hernandez, the vision of Shop Latina Made is to lift up the LatinX community by providing a booming hub for innovative mujeres to showcase their products to the mass market. As part of this, the organization will also offer Latina businesswomen support resources to help them grow sustainable enterprises.

The larger goal is to advance the lives of LatinX through business acceleration, job creation, and the accumulation of generational wealth.
