The Awards of Distinction is the modular building industry's premier award program recognizing design excellence in structures built utilizing prefabricated systems. It highlights the most creative and innovative modular building solutions from projects worldwide.
The Aspire Public Schools' Antonio Maria Lugo Academy is a two-story, 37,248 sf education building consisting of a single structure which houses an entire charter school campus. The building contains 17 classrooms, a library, a kitchen, multipurpose space, office spaces, interior corridors and interior stairs. The building's exterior is covered with a vertical metal siding system that utilizes multiple colors and panel profiles, with aluminum and stucco accents, providing a striking architectural presence.
Winning the Permanent Modular Education Award was quite the feat as this year's contest generated 110 entries for projects around the world. In addition, the MBI confirmed there were 14 entries in the permanent modular education category and this category was among the most competitive they have ever had with the independent judges scoring the top eight entries within 10% of one another. Of the 14 permanent modular construction education projects, 12 were US entries, 1 Canadian, and 1 from South America.
