The Third Annual National Diversity Pre-Law Conference, a pre-professional empowerment event providing information, resources and connections to diverse law school aspirants while encouraging social responsibility, will be held at the Howard University School of Law in Washington, DC.
WASHINGTON - March 25, 2016 - PRLog -- Future law students, college and law school administrators, law students, lawyers, and diversity professionals are all invited to attend the Third Annual National Diversity Pre-Law Conference and Law Fair which is scheduled from Friday, April 1st, 2016 to Saturday, April 2nd, 2016 at the Howard University School of Law in Washington, DC. This power-packed educational empowerment event is designed to connect diverse aspiring lawyers from across the United States with game-changing and impactful information, networking opportunities, diversity leadership training, and law school and diversity resources that they otherwise would not have ready access to all in one place.

This year's lineup of dynamic and accomplished keynote speakers includes Artika Tyner, Esq., M.P.P., Ed.D., Assistant Professor of Public Policy and Leadership and Associate Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion, University of St. Thomas (Saint Paul, Minnesota); Ruqaiijah Yearby, Esq., M.P.H., Associate Dean of Institutional Diversity and Inclusiveness and Professor of Law, Case Western Reserve University School of Law (Cleveland, Ohio); Charles Hamilton Houston III, Esq., Assistant General Counsel for Global Compliance and Enterprise Risk Management (International), ABM Industries (Houston, Texas); and Lauren van Schilfgaarde, Esq., Tribal Law Specialist, Tribal Law and Policy Institute and Director, National Native American Bar Association (West Hollywood, California).

Spirited and influential special guest speakers scheduled to participate include Tina Matsuoka, Esq., Executive Director, National Asian Pacific American Bar Association; Robert T. Maldonado, Esq., National President, Hispanic National Bar Association; Leigh Chapman, Esq., Chair, Young Lawyers Division, National Bar Association; Sonji Patrick, Education Director, LatinoJustice PRLDEF; Raymond A. Ramirez, Esq., President, Region V, Hispanic National Bar Association; and Kevin D. Judd, Esq., President-Elect, National Bar Association.

There are also numerous noteworthy special guests, panelists, presenters, moderators and advisors who will participate with the common focus of imparting wisdom and inspiring attendees. Aspiring lawyers will be given concrete advice, tools and strategies to succeed despite the additional challenges they will face as diverse law students. Moreover, they will be encouraged to remember their special social responsibility to serve their communities, give back, and contribute to the ongoing fight for social justice.

The conference will offer unparalleled plenary sessions, a mock law school class, workshop sessions on the personal statement and the diversity statement, LSAT success strategies, and financing legal education. There will also be panel discussions on diversity and law school admission, diversity and the law school experience, and diversity and the legal profession. Diversity leadership training will be offered through Diversity Pre-Law Talks™, a signature event featuring powerful, short talks given by experienced and rising diversity thought leaders. These talks will provide unique and compelling perspectives on diversity issues around law school and the legal profession covering topics such as cultural competence, diversity and inclusion, implicit bias, leadership, service and social justice.

In addition, participants can take part in the Law School Recruitment and Diversity Resources Fair featuring law schools, employers, diverse law student and lawyer organizations, and academic preparation and support organizations. Further, attendees will receive special perks such as book giveaways and special discounts for LSAT courses and law school preparation programs. Finally, pre-law students can have their personal statements, diversity statements and resumes reviewed and receive one-on-one or small group advisement by current law students and lawyers on both days. Moreover, complimentary continental breakfasts and refreshment breaks will be provided.

Partners include the Law School Admission Council's DiscoverLaw.org, the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, the Hispanic National Bar Association, the National Bar Association, the National Native American Bar Association, the National Black Law Students Association, the National Latina/o Law Student Association, the National Asian Pacific American Law Students Association, the National Association of Law Students With Disabilities, CLEO, Inc., Advantage Testing Foundation, Ms. JD, American Constitution Society for Law and Policy, Juris Educatio, Charles Hamilton Houston Law School Preparatory Institute, Manhattan Prep, among others.

This event is sponsored by Baker Botts LLP, Proskauer Rose LLP, Weil, Gothshal & Manges LLP, Kelley Drye & Warren LLP and the United States Navy Judge Advocate General's Corps.

According to Attorney Evangeline M. Mitchell, the conference's founder, "This year's conference is particularly significant because the lawful consideration of race as one factor among many in making admissions decisions in American higher education is uncertain as we await the Supreme Court's decision in the Fisher v. The University of Texas case. The fact that many of us who sincerely believe in the incredible importance of diversity in law schools and in the legal profession will be physically visiting the Supreme Court with a group of diverse aspiring lawyers - at a time when the justices' decision can have a major impact on diversity initiatives at colleges and universities throughout our nation - makes this year's event even more meaningful."

Programming for the entire conference weekend is offered completely free of charge and is open to the public. However, seating is very limited. Registration information and further details can be found at the official conference website at http://www.diversityprelawconference.org.
