The Malibu can be powered by a 1.5L ECOTEC turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and 6-speed automatic transmission capable of generating 160 hp. Drivers can also select a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder powerplant with 8-speed automatic transmission that produces 250 hp. A 1.8L dual-mode hybrid engine capable of an EPA-estimated 47 mpg/city is also available.
Depending upon the trim selected, the Malibu can be equipped with technology features that include options like Bluetooth hands-free calling and music streaming, Apple CarPlay or Android Auto for access to compatible smart phones, and Chevy's MyLink infotainment system which provides access to features such as music, news, podcasts, weather, and navigation.
The midsized Malibu is equipped with OnStar, giving access to options such as 4G LTE Wi-Fi connectivity for as many as seven devices and the GPS-enabled Automatic Crash Response system, which can contact emergency services should the vehicle be involved in an accident that involves airbag deployment.
The Malibu offers 10 standard airbags as part of a comprehensive safety system that includes options like Lane Keep Assist, Front Pedestrian Braking, Rear Vision Camera, Forward Collision Warning, Front Automatic Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Front and Rear Park Assist.
