Cars.com named two Toyota models as the most American-made cars on the market: the Camry and the Sienna.
PRLog - July 14, 2015 - BURNS HARBOR, Ind. -- Lake Shore Toyota is excited to announce that the 2015 Toyota Camry has yet again taken home the top spot in the Cars.com index of the most American-made vehicles in the auto market. The second-place spot went to another familiar vehicle: the 2015 Toyota Sienna.
This is the fifth time that the Camry has been ranked number one in the Cars.com index, who describes the index as “[rating] vehicles built and bought in the United States. Factors include the percentage of parts considered 'domestic' under federal regulations, whether the car is assembled in the U.S. and U.S. sales. Models with domestic-parts content ratings below 75 percent are disqualified.”
Despite being a Japanese auto manufacturer, the majority of Toyota's vehicles are produced in the United States and for the American market. The Camry has been the best-selling car in America for 13 years running, and is produced in Georgetown, Kentucky along with the Avalon and hybrid versions of both the Camry and the Avalon.
Taking second-place in the index, the Sienna is built in Princeton, Indiana at the same plant that produces the Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, and Sequoia. Toyota has recently invested in the plant to improve Highlander production by as many as 30,000 units each year.
While many drivers think of American-based automakers as having the most American-made cars, it's clear that this isn't the case, and readers wanting to buy American should be eyeing a Toyota like the Camry or the Sienna.
The Cars.com recognition comes hot on the heels of the announcement that Toyota was the non-luxury brand with the best retained value on Edmunds.com, giving American drivers an incentive to further invest in the local economy with a long-lasting and affordable new Toyota.
