"Death Bank" Holds Hostages In Fort Wayne

By: PRLog
PR Log - Sep 13, 2012 - It seems like just yesterday we were being told that a feature film was shooting in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and now another one.  CA producer Rich Owens is shooting his new hostage thriller movie in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in November.  Owens, a story liner from the hit TV series Scrubs wrote the feature film, and Mike White will be directing.

This is Owens fourth producing gig on feature length films.  He also produced Foursome in 2008, Time Fighter in 2011, and The 4th Story, earlier this year.

The reason Fort Wayne may be seeing so many films shot here by Owens is because he is a Hoosier at heart.  "I was raised here, went to South Side High School, and I own a home on the south side, still.  My work may take me to California, but this is always home," said Owens.

Owens has relinquished his directing role to his good friend, Mike White, who is a resident of Nashville, TN.  Owens meet White last year when working in Nashville and the two developed a good friendship.  White was the Director of Photography on Owens last feature, The 4th Story, which also shot here in Fort Wayne.

Owens told us, "Mike is a talented director and director of photography.  He has a creative vision and unique style to tell stories in pictures; and I think he is just embarking on a long successful career."

Death Bank, the newest film, is being shot in "real time," recreating the idea that the story had been caught by video footage at the time of the real-life incident.  Owens admits that the story has been embellished a lot, but was taken from a true story.  "Two guys walked into a bank down south, and one of them forgot he was packing a pistol.  Before they could react, the security guard had a gun drawn, and they were arrested.  It got me to thinking, what if that guy had got the draw on the security guard?"

In Owens version, Death Bank tells the story of two low-income family brothers who walk into a bank.  When it is realized the younger brother has a weapon, the security guard draws on them, but panicked, the younger brother responds by pulling his gun.  It results in a stand-off, and hostage situation, that results in the death of everyone in the bank.  "It is kind of dark, but could have really happened," says Owens.

The film is shooting on the RED camera system, used by numerous television productions and feature film companies.  The quality is the best in the business, which is good, since they are hoping for a limited theatrical release.

The unique business format of Owens movies too is very interesting, it allows people to invest in his projects for as little as $500.  Anyone, from any walk of life, could become a movie investor for as little as $500, which makes it affordable to be involved.  I think I might event invest in the next one!

The film will star Bobby Quinn Rice, from Star Trek New Voyages; Clarence Gilyard, known from Walker Texas Ranger and Matlock; and Brian Anthony Wilson, who most recently completed the feature film Limitless.

There is a lot of excitement surrounding this project, and I for one cannot wait to see it.  I am glad more productions are coming to Northeast Indiana, and I hope others will follow Owens lead, and find it a great place to shoot.
