Society today is filled with stories of extraordinary people who have worked their way up from positions of obscurity to outstanding success. These grass-to-grace stories are not just pleasant to hear, they also go a long way in inspiring others that they can achieve whatever they set their heart to with proper dedication. Todd Skelton is a man with such story. The former CEO of Prime Automotive Group wasn’t born into any position of advantage or influence. In fact, he started his career as a restaurant manager before his promotion to a Pizza Hut Area Manager where he was placed in charge of 16 restaurants in Florida.

Todd held this position for about seven years before he realized that the restaurant business was not challenging enough. So he decided to start over again in an entirely new industry. In 1992, Todd joined an auto company as a salesman and after recognizing his commitment to work, the owners promoted him to management within six months. This promotion began this car guy’s lifelong affair with the auto industry.

Todd continued to progress in various sales and general management roles in his new auto industry. He soon went from working as an associate to becoming market president, a role he got thanks to his inspirational leadership, ability to successfully manage change, and goal orientation. His position as president of the South Florida area placed him in charge of multiple automotive dealerships generating over $2.5 billion in revenue. Reports showed that, “The South Florida franchise mix included: Mercedes Benz, Lexus, JLR, Nissan, Toyota, CDJR, Ford, Chevrolet, VW, Volvo, Honda, Lincoln, and Cadillac. Skelton’s South Florida territory was the most profitable market in the company four years in a row, from 2010 to 2013.”

January of 2020 saw Todd being appointed as the president and CEO of Prime Automotive Group. In his acceptance speech, the auto tycoon stated, “”I look forward to using my industry knowledge and relationships to continue the innovation for which Prime Automotive Group is known. Part of my job is to ensure that Prime employees know that their contributions are important and that they are key to all of our operations. Well-trained employees who feel valued are essential to the level of customer satisfaction that we want to achieve in our dealerships.”

Todd did keep to his promise to move Prime Automotive Group. Through his highly refined leadership, he was able to set a proven track record of successfully building and consistently growing dealership sales volume, market share, F&I PVR, fixed operations, and profitability. In that same year, the Prime dealerships generated $3 billion in annual revenues and retailed over 82,000 new and used vehicles. What’s more, Todd provided exceptional shareholder value by selling the company to a Fortune 500 automotive retailer for four times the January 2020 valuation.

Today, Todd is still not resting on his oars. The multi-billion dollar CEO now plies his trade as the CEO of Ascendance Truck Centers, a growing national network of full-service commercial truck dealers.
