Wisconsin Virtual Academy Earns Accreditation From Cognia

WIVA’s K-12 programs recognized by national nonprofit for meeting rigorous standards, showcasing commitment to educational excellence

Wisconsin Virtual Academy (WIVA), a virtual tuition-free public school serving students across the state, announced today that its programs have earned accreditation from Cognia, a nonprofit organization that provides quality assurance for schools, school districts and education service providers.

“School accreditation as conferred by the Cognia Global Accreditation Commission provides Wisconsin Virtual Academy a nationally recognized mark of quality for our school,” shared Dr. Sara Cutler, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Virtual Academies, including WIVA. “It demonstrates our commitment to excellence, our openness to external review and feedback and our desire to deliver the highest quality education to our students, coming to all from every corner of our state.”

WIVA draws on decades of experience in online education, offering personalized and high-quality instruction that meets state standards. The school is keenly focused on preparing students across Wisconsin for life after school. Among other offerings, WIVA students can take advantage of dual enrollment, AP courses, credit recovery and Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) college readiness programs.

“Cognia Accreditation is a rigorous process that focuses the entire school and its community on the primary goal of preparing lifelong learners in engaging environments where all students can flourish,” said Dr. Mark A. Elgart, president and CEO of Cognia. “Wisconsin Virtual Academy is to be commended for demonstrating that it has met high standards and is making progress on key indicators that impact student learning.”

To earn Cognia accreditation, a school district must also implement a continuous process of improvement and submit to internal and external review. Schools in good standing can maintain accreditation for a six-year term.

Cognia, formerly AdvancED, recognizes districts across the nation that meet rigorous standards focused on productive learning environments, effective leadership and equitable resource allocation that meets the needs of learners.
