Danforth: Eldritch Tales of WWII (A Cthulhu Mythos Story) by Christopher Michael is a fascinating blend of fantasy, horror, paranormal mystery, and historical fiction. Robert B. Danforth has a PhD in Sociology focusing on Occult Studies. As a child, he encountered an apparition in the attic of the Danforth family’s Victorian residence. This encounter sparked Robert’s interest in everything eldritch. As a student, he discovered the Necronomicon, an occult book hidden in a secret chamber of the university’s library. Robert studied it thoroughly and concluded it was only a medieval magic book. But during WWII, when Robert was in Cairo on a secret mission to gather intelligence about the German high command seeking occult artifacts, he realized the true significance of the Necronomicon. What happened on that secret mission?

Christopher Michael’s Danforth: Eldritch Tales of WWII is a riveting read! The engaging storyline kept me thrilled from the first episode of Robert’s discovery of a specter in the attic throughout his covert mission in Cairo. I liked the unique way in which Robert’s story was presented. The whole novel is made up of Robert’s narrative describing his discoveries, a few transcripts of interrogations of a Nazi agent, and reports by the Coordinator of Information in New York to the U.S. President. I liked how the straightforward language of the transcripts contrasted with Robert’s surreal descriptions of the events he witnessed. But most of all, I enjoyed the author’s awesome writing style – his monologue was so atmospheric that I felt like I was watching a film. I highly recommend this brilliant novel to paranormal mystery fans."
