DraftKings appears to offer 9/11-themed parlay featuring NYC sports teams

DraftKings came under scrutiny on Monday for allegedly offering a parlay featuring New York City-area sports teams in remembrance of the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

DraftKings, a sports gambling company that also runs an online casino, came under scrutiny on Monday when it appeared to offer a 9/11-themed parlay involving New York City-area sports teams.

A screenshot of the parlay appeared to show DraftKings offering bettors the chance to take the New York Mets to defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks, the New York Yankees to win against the Boston Red Sox and the New York Jets to start the season off strong against the Buffalo Bills with a victory.

"NEVER FORGET," the parlay heading read. "Bet these New York teams to win tonight on 9/11."

The parlay, which was at +651, appeared to be taken down. The image first appeared on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, Sunday night.

"Counting down the minutes until DraftKings pulls this ‘never forget’ 9/11 parlay," The Wall Street Journal’s Nick Guy wrote. About 343 people placed a bet on the parlay, the image read.

The image continued to make its rounds on Monday morning before it appeared to be pulled from the website.

"We sincerely apologize for the featured parlay that was shared briefly in commemoration of 9/11," the company said in a statement. "We respect the significance of this day for our country and especially for the families of those who were directly affected."

Americans remembered those who were lost due to the terror attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

"September 11 is a day not only to remember, but a day of renewal and resolve for every American — in our devotion to this country, to the principles it embodies, to our democracy," President Biden wrote on X. "That is what we owe one another. And what we owe future generations of Americans to come.

"Today, we remember the 2,977 precious lives stolen from us on 9/11 and reflect on all that was lost in the fire and ash that September morning. The American story itself changed on this day 22 years ago. But what could not — and will not — change is the character of this nation."
