San Francisco Medical Doctor Julian Mitton Gives Back Through New Scholarship Fund

San Francisco, CA - The Dr Julian Mitton Scholarship for Medical Students has been endowed by Julian Mitton, MD to support medical students who are struggling to make ends meet. The scholarship will be awarded to a student who can demonstrate financial need and is currently enrolled in a recognized medical school. High school and university students who aspire to work in the medical field in the future are also welcome to apply. All applicants must be full-time students working towards their first degree in medicine at the time of application. The submission deadline for the grant has been extended indefinitely until further notice. Dr. Mitton will decide which student should receive the scholarship, and the selected individual will be awarded financial support from the grant.

According to Dr. Mitton, the scholarship was established to provide access to medical education and inspire future generations to pursue careers in the medical field. He believes that making financial assistance available to medical students is an excellent way to ensure that all eligible persons, regardless of their financial position, have the opportunity to pursue a career in the medical field. Students who meet the requirements for the Julian Mitton MD Scholarship will receive financial aid in tuition assistance and help with the expenses of textbooks and other resources. In 2020, Julian Mitton, MD, an internist and addiction medicine specialist, became the system director for population health policy at CommonSpirit and a clinical assistant professor at Baylor College of Medicine. He completed his medical education at Stony Brook University and his residency at MGH in Boston. Julian received his Master of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health and postdoctoral fellowship training from Harvard Medical School, both in implementation science and health services research. Being a specialist in addiction medicine, Julian has worked as a primary care physician at a community health center, for the Indian Health Service, and at an academic tertiary care hospital. He works on various aspects of community health, clinical innovations, integrated behavioral health, and expanding access to effective addiction therapies.

The Julian Mitton MD Scholarship for Medical Students was established to provide monetary assistance to deserving medical students. The scholarship will be awarded to a student who exemplifies outstanding performance in their chosen study area. Students who meet the requirements are strongly urged to apply.
