The FIRST Church Is Uniting and Empowering Members of Its Community Through Its MENtal Health Summit

The church is fulfilling its mission and vision by creating a safe and secure community where members and participants can freely discuss issues on mental health

Unlike physical illnesses that are typically accompanied by telltale signs and symptoms, mental illnesses are usually sinister in their manifestations, with symptoms that could easily be indiscernible or ignored. These subtle manifestations may include withdrawal, anxiety, insomnia, reduced energy, and dark moods, to mention a few. Unfortunately, many have lost children, parents, friends, and loved ones to the grip of this beast due to a lack of awareness of its symptoms and insufficient knowledge to handle them when they arise. The FIRST Church is a church committed to ending the terrors brought on individuals and families by mental health challenges.

In obedience to its vision of ministering to the social, spiritual, and physical development of all people, The FIRST Church is organizing a information-packed and life-transforming mental health summit in Central Florida. The summit is designed to cultivate a safe space for the participants to discuss the issues paramount to their mental health and prevalent societal factors that make them susceptible to mental illnesses, with the aim of teaching participants a range of tried-and-true strategies that are certain to help them protect their mental health, survive, and thrive in these times.

The MENtal Health Summit, sponsored by The FIRST Church, in collaboration with Keep Your Stride™ and Color to Connect™, is set to take place on the 5th of November, 2022 from 10 am to 1 pm EDT at the Winter Park Community Center, located at 721 West New England Avenue, Winter Park, FL 32789, United States. In addition, the panelists of the MENtal Health Summit are comprised of professional and licensed mental health counsellors in the United States, which includes; Karon Montgomery, PJ Queenan, Liz Buford, and Missouri McPhee, to name a few.

Speaking on the relevance of this mental health summit, Reverend David Ferguson, senior pastor of The FIRST Church, had this to say, “All of us have been impacted by mental illness in one way or another, directly or indirectly, but we may not all recognize that mental illness is the root cause. My hope, prayer, and objective is to create a space where we can develop a better understanding of mental illness and empower each other to find the courage to take steps to overcome it.”

This bold step taken by The FIRST Church is set to demolish the faulty idea that certain topics, in this case, mental health, are taboo in Christian circles. Furthermore, the organizers hope to propagate the idea that mental health is everyone’s business with this summit. Registration to this live in-person event is free for all attending participants.
