Philadelphia, PA – Second Chance Dance, “Where it is never too late to start, and never too early to begin again,” opens in Philadelphia, PA, Sunday November 13th 2022. It is Philadelphia’s first Minority owned, Woman Operated Adult-Only dance school. Located at 5836 Henry Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19128. Second Chance Dance (SCD) is Philadelphia’s First Adult Only Dance School, offering professional dance instruction for adults 18 and over. SCD offers weekly classes in ballet, modern, jazz, tap, conditioning, and deep stretch.
Second Chance Dance is owned and operated by Alyssa Bowser, a Philadelphia native. Alyssa said “For years, the dance world has been limited to specific parameters. You must start at a certain age, have certain feet, be a size 0, have rubber-band flexibility, and commit every waking hour you have, to being in the studio; Not to mention the exorbitant cost that often comes with pursuing dance as a career. But why does it have to be that way? Well, the truth is, it doesn’t. There should be a safe space where adults can explore and learn various dance genres, in a professional setting, without having to commit to dancing as a career, and without paying what equates to a mortgage payment while doing so. What’s particularly important to me is providing a space for dancers and movers to experience a true dance school no matter what experience they may walk in with. We don’t require previous experience; we just ask that you are open to learning and willing to honor your body along this new journey. For current members of SCD, the things they mention the most are feeling encouraged, supported, and confident. For me, dance is so much more than being onstage, it’s stress relief, internal exploration, enjoyment, peace, and freedom in one of its purest forms.”
Alyssa Bowser is a highly trained dancer and with over 9 years of teaching experience, in and around the Philadelphia area. She has successfully led dance intensives, clinics, and bootcamps for children as young as 3 through adults gracefully moving through their 70s.
SCD is easily accessible, located in the heart of Roxborough, on Henry Avenue, between Rector St. and Jamestown Ave., across from the renowned Dalessandro’s Steaks. The facility has a large open dance studio, high ceilings, brand-new dance flooring, 2-changing rooms, a waiting area, a conference room, and a serene back yard. In addition to dance classes SCD offers other dance services and community events for the whole family.
November 13th 2022 SCD is hosting its Grand Opening, which is open to the public, to allow everyone to come in to see the space, meet the founder, learn more about its classes and partake in this celebration. All are welcome to drop in to say hello, connect with the owner, and are encouraged to register for the season. Weekly Classes begin Sunday November 13th, 2022.
