Media Art Group Cuz’s Digital Signage Campaign, LOVE EARTH, SWITCH OFF, Presented at Times Square, New York

By: Get News

CUZ, a media art group that is receiving great attention at home and abroad in the field of immersive media by introducing digital content that combines technology and art, starts an interactive public campaign ‘LOVE EARTH, SWITCH OFF’ in Times Square, New York.

Unveiled through Reuters and NASDAQ Tower billboards in the heart of Times Square, ‘LOVE EARTH, SWITCH OFF’ is a campaign where you can observe the beautiful resurrection of the trees and surrounding scenery in a huge space by turning off the light switch on the signboard. Starting December 11th, New York local time, this campaign delivers the message to those who visit Times Square that small actions in daily life, such as turning off lights, can save the planet, along with experiencing media art that captures the marvelous beauty of Mother Nature.

‘LOVE EARTH, SWITCH OFF’ is a campaign that reveals the strengths of CUZ, which is expanding its social influence based on immersive media and digital content.

The futuristic space that appears as the huge iron gate of the building is opened symbolically represents the development of the modern civilization we live in, and the trees and surrounding plants wither in it remind us of the rapidly changing Earth by humans. However, when the light switch is turned off, small particles of light spread softly through the space that seems to have lost life, and as a result, trees and surrounding plants bloom beautifully and come to life again. This revival of Mother Nature shows the possibility of coexistence of developed mechanical civilization and nature, while, at the same time, conveying that nature can be restored by humans. Finally, the soft swirls of colorful petals and leaves that fill the space make us realize that the beginning of such small changes, when combined with the vitality of nature, can heal the entire Earth.

In this way, media art implemented around storytelling effectively raises awareness of environmental protection by inducing agreement on actions and roles for nature rather than directly insisting on environmental protection practices. In addition, the mechanical structure of the huge space and the realistic natural scenery realized through anamorphic technology, which highlights CUZ’s rich production experience and technology, are the factors that attract people’s curiosity and active participation in the campaign. Especially, since the content was planned and produced in consideration of the exterior, structure, street space, and viewing point of Reuters and NASDAQ Tower, it is possible to provide a higher sense of immersion to the audience and maximize the effect. As such, ‘LOVE EARTH, SWITCH OFF’ by CUZ considers both artistic and technical experiences, transforming the Reuters and Nasdaq Tower billboards into a cultural and artistic space where new experiences are possible beyond a simple advertising medium.

Meanwhile, ‘LOVE EARTH, SWITCH OFF’ by CUZ Art Group to meet people from all over the world in Times Square, New York was supported by Gyeonggi-do and Gyeonggi Content Agency, local governments in South Korea. It is evaluated that CUZ’s experience of presenting various works containing stories about environmental issues has completed a more meaningful campaign.

Through this exhibition and campaign held in Times Square, New York, CUZ is expected to provide new artistic possibilities and special experiences to more people, while at the same time promoting Korea’s high-quality cultural content based on digital technology internationally.
