"Code Name Abdul" gets critical reception from the audience in India and the USA

The portrayal of India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) agents in films is not something new. We have witnessed an array of thrillers in the past. And it seems that ‘Code Name Abdul’ is the latest offering by director Eshwar Gunturu. The Tarantino-esque gritty thriller that had its theatrical release on December 10 has been getting rave reviews from the audience in India and the USA for it’s unexpected twists.

With the film’s release, actress Tanishaa Mukerji came back into action alongside debutant talents Khatera Hakimi, Ashok Chaudhary and Anshuman Sharma. The action flick has been applauded by people not just for its gripping storyline but also for the standout performances by the film’s cast.

Code Name Abdul revolves around four Counter Intelligence Agents from RAW who are on a mission to find an elusive terrorist. What happens in the action film is a series of events followed by some twists and turns in the storyline. All in all, Eshwar Gunturu has managed to keep the viewers glued to the seats by giving this action-packed thriller.

While speaking about the film, the filmmaker said, ”Our film satisfies the rare ‘Bechdel test’ where two or more women have an interaction without discussing any man. Tanishaa and Khatera discuss ideologies during their much talked about fight in the film.”

Adding to it, the director went on to say that the team of ‘Code Name Abdul’ is proud of the way the film has shaped up. “We are glad people were invested in film and were guessing the outcome and motives of the principal characters in a million directions, some of which we as makers didn’t anticipate too. The film had been constantly getting delayed because of the pandemic nonetheless, whoever saw the film were floored by the out-of-box story and the suspense climax in the film. Few sent me Facebook messages about how the film doesn’t give any clue to the climax like in regular suspense films”, revealed Eshwar.
