Which Milling Cutter Is Used For Processing Aluminum Alloy

The machining aluminum parts currently used are mainly divided into two categories: cast aluminum alloy and deformed aluminum alloy. Then what milling cutter is used for processing aluminum alloy, whether it is aluminum alloy milling cutter or aluminum alloy milling cutter, and the processing efficiency is higher?

Processing characteristics of aluminum alloy

1. Compared with other hardened steels, the hardness of aluminum alloys is lower than that of titanium alloys and other hardened steels. Of course, the hardness of aluminum alloy after heat treatment is also very high, or die-cast aluminum alloy. The HRC hardness of ordinary aluminum plate is generally lower than HRC40 degrees. Therefore, the tool load is small when processing aluminum alloy. The good thermal conductivity of aluminum makes the cutting temperature of milling aluminum alloy lower, thereby increasing the milling speed of aluminum alloy.

2. Aluminum alloy has low plasticity and low melting point. The sticking problem in aluminum processing is serious, the chip removal performance is poor, and the surface roughness is also high. In fact, the processing of aluminum alloy is mainly rod-shaped knife, and the roughness effect is not good. Only by solving the two problems of sticking knife and processing surface quality can the problem of aluminum alloy processing be solved.

The tool is easy to wear because inappropriate tool materials are used. When machining aluminum alloy, tool wear and tear are often accelerated due to problems such as tool sticking and chip removal.

3. Aluminum alloy processing generally uses a 3-blade aluminum milling cutter, because of the difference in processing conditions, it is likely to use a 2-blade ball-end knife or a 4-blade flat-bottomed knife. However, it is recommended that in most cases, a 3-blade flat-bottomed end mill can be used, and the material is generally YG cemented carbide, which can reduce the chemical affinity of the tool and the aluminum alloy. Ordinary CNC tool brands have a series of special milling cutters for processing aluminum alloy.

4. High-speed steel high-speed steel aluminum profile milling cutter is relatively sharp, and can also process aluminum alloy very well.

5. Generally, high speed and large feed can be selected for processing of ordinary aluminum alloy. Secondly, choose a larger rake angle as much as possible to increase the chip space and reduce the phenomenon of sticking. If it is a refined aluminum alloy, you cannot use water-based cutting fluid to avoid the formation of small pinholes on the processed surface. Generally, you can use kerosene or diesel as the cutting fluid for aluminum plate processing. The cutting speed of the aluminum alloy milling cutter varies with the material and parameters of the milling cutter and the processing technology. The specific cutting parameters can be processed according to the cutting parameters provided by the manufacturer.
