Erica Carlson of Erica Carlson Children’s Entertainment, a cherished Columbus-based children’s author and entertainer, announced today that the second book in her The Adventures of Sedgie the Hedgie series, Sedgie the Hedgie Solves the Case, is available for pre-order, and will be shipped on June 7, 2024. Published by Gatekeeper Press, the book is a journey designed to captivate young readers, immersing them in an adventure that not only entertains but also enriches their hearts and minds. Sedgie the Hedgie Solves the Case will be available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble for $17.99 in hardcover, $12.99 in paperback, and $3.99 as an eBook.
Sedgie the Hedgie Solves the Case tells the story of Clover the Pup’s birthday. Sedgie the Hedgie wants to make it extra special by twisting her a balloon hat, but when Clover’s hat mysteriously disappears, these two detectives are on the case. A surprising list of suspects, including Erica’s own pet turtle Picasso, leads to an even more shocking solution to this mystery.
“I chose this topic for the second book because kids love balloons, adventures, and mysteries,” said Carlson. “My book series and interactive programs help kids make real-world connections to what they read. Kids get to see magic tricks, balloon creations, and real animals that are then found in my books, which entices them to read and creates a magical experience!”
Carlson will embark on a summer tour starting in May, where she will visit libraries and childcare centers across Central Ohio, bringing her book to life. During these engagements, Carlson performs interactive, family-friendly magic shows and leads empowering balloon twisting workshops with the option to purchase her books after some programs. Children will have the opportunity to meet Sedgie the Hedgie and even Picasso the Turtle at some of the shows. Though Clover the Pup is inspiration for the books, she will be working from home as she needs to keep an eye on Erica’s children like Nana, the endearing pup in Peter Pan. Carlson teamed up with Drew Dittmar, the same illustrator as her first book, to bring this second adventure in The Adventures of Sedgie the Hedgie series to young readers.

The first book in The Adventures of Sedgie the Hedgie series, Sedgie the Hedgie Finds the Treasure, has sold over 1200 copies, which is notable in the children’s book genre for independently published authors. Fans of Sedgie the Hedgie can find him in an embroidered plush “reading buddy” version which is sold at Coffee Connections and MAK Home Furnishings in Hilliard. Erica also sells these cuddly stuffies after her programs for $15.
