Tingey Injury Law Firm Presses for Better Care for Alzheimer’s Patients

With June marking Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, a Las Vegas personal injury firm is drawing on its own experiences representing Alzheimer’s patients to advocate for improved care.

(PRUnderground) June 13th, 2023

In honor of Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month in June, Tingey Injury Law Firm in Las Vegas is calling for better care for those suffering with Alzheimer’s. The issue is personal for the firm, which has represented Alzheimer’s patients who were victims of abuse and neglect at care homes.

Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia, accounting for 60% to 80% of dementia cases. Early symptoms include confusion and an inability to recall details. As the disease progresses, it may lead to permanent memory loss, an inability to recognize loved ones, paranoia, and physical and mental disabilities interfering with day-to-day activities. This disease can affect anyone and is one of the few leading causes of death in modern society for which there is no prevention or cure.

Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month recognizes the patients and family members who face this debilitating disease. It also highlights the need for further research and practical, compassionate solutions to serve the Alzheimer’s community, which faces many unnecessary challenges.

Because their condition limits their ability to defend themselves or report abuse, Alzheimer’s and other dementia patients are particularly vulnerable to nursing home negligence. It’s estimated that as many as 44% of patients will be exploited by a caregiver financially, physically, emotionally, or sexually. Yet, the National Library Of Medicine approximates that just 7% of these abuse cases are reported to authorities.

Our nursing home accident injury attorneys have seen the personal cost to Alzheimer’s patients and their families due to negligent care,” said Dean Tingey, firm attorney. “As some of the most vulnerable members of our community, these patients deserve our protection.”

Tingey Injury Law Firm’s accident attorneys have been on the forefront of the fight against negligence in long-term care facilities for 50 years in Las Vegas. They provide educational materials for nursing home patients on their website and encourage everyone to take a stand for patient rights.

The firm is encouraging community members to participate in the Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month June 21 Solstice Event by:

  • Wearing purple to raise awareness.
  • Turning a favorite activity into a fundraising event.
  • Volunteering or attending a local Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month event.

The Tingey Injury Law Firm team urges family and nursing facility staff members to monitor Alzheimer’s patients for signs of abuse and stand for their patient’s rights to safe, compassionate care.
