Church of Scientology Holds Free CPR Training and English Tutoring in New York City

Church of Scientology in Times Square embracing a new project of helping new arrivals to the city with practical tools for life.

Driven by help and compassion, the Volunteer Ministers of the Church of Scientology announced they are now offering free Tools for Life courses, English tutoring and CPR training, twice a week at the Church of Scientology at their 227 W 46th Street location in Times Square.

The Scientology Volunteer Ministers program was created by L. Ron Hubbard in the mid-1970s with the motto "Something can be done about it.”

Recognizing the lack of resources for people newly arriving in New York City, the Scientology Volunteer Ministers, known for their aid during natural and man-made disasters and times of struggle, have stepped in to assist in the city. When asking new arrivals to the city what they need to improve their lives, the answers were life skills, help to improve and practice their English, and CPR training.

The program is strengthened by the involvement of dedicated individuals from various backgrounds. Sir Maliki Stone, a retired NYPD detective with 22 years of service, said, “This is an inspiring program, we have nations coming together from this and the program has a high intellectual motivation. It’s a different type of program, it’s not as much academic, but geared to application and survival. I have learned so much helping these guys and it is such a pleasure. Scientology is utilizing scientific discoveries on the human mind and giving people tools to advance themselves and take responsibility, instead of just giving a handout. They are teaching man to fish instead of giving him fish.”

Around the world, hundreds of thousands of people, including those of all faiths, have been trained to use Scientology fundamentals to alleviate physical, mental, and spiritual suffering, and improve various aspects of life. With that knowledge, the Volunteer Ministers are going into communities to help others.

The L. Ron Hubbard Foundation is partnering with the Church of Scientology in this effort. L. Ron Hubbard, Founder of the Scientology religion, said, “Change no man's religion, change no man's politics, interrupt the sovereignty of no nation. Instead, teach Man to use what he has and what he knows to the factual creation, within any political reference, of a civilization on Earth for the first time.”
