SWS Law Firm Managing Partner Steve Sands Becomes Full-Time UWWM Mediator/Arbitrator

ORMOND BEACH. FL. (February 20, 2023) – Steven L. Sands has begun to mediate as part of Upchurch Watson White & Max’s distinguished panel of neutrals. He is based in Central Florida, but, like all UWWM mediators, is available in person or by Zoom.

Mr. Sands began his legal career more than 35 years ago when he joined a large law firm handling commercial litigation. Later, he served as an attorney for the Fourth Circuit State Attorney Office in Jacksonville, handling felony prosecutions, before returning to Volusia County to practice personal injury law. He has been managing partner of Sands, White & Sands P.A. for the last 20 years. Mr. Sands has broad experience in commercial and personal injury litigation, including medical negligence.

He has now completed his transition from litigator to full-time dispute resolution professional, fulfilling a longtime goal of helping parties settle differences in a compassionate, personalized manner. He plans to use the full breadth of his experience in that pursuit.

“We extend a warm welcome to Steve Sands, a distinguished trial attorney who has elected to dedicate the next phase of his career to resolving cases as a neutral mediator, assisting both sides in finding resolution,” the group’s CEO John Upchurch said. “His keen insight and engaging manner will serve him well, and our clients will be comforted to work with such a respected and trustworthy professional.”

Mr. Sands graduated with honors from the University of Florida Law School (now Levin College of Law) and was a member of the university’s law review. He also graduated Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude with his bachelor of science degree from Tufts University.

He has regularly handled cases involving automobile, motorcycle and trucking collisions; medical negligence, plaintiffs’ personal injury and wrongful death; pharmaceutical litigation; nursing home negligence/abuse; and commercial disputes.

For details or to schedule a mediation with Mr. Sands, please contact case manager Christine Amato, also an alumna of Sands, White & Sands, at camato@uww-adr.com or (800) 864-2622.
