Shop Strange Pioneers Apparel Decorating Industry with Direct-to-Film Printing, a Leading-Edge Print Technology
This versatile printing method yields higher level of durability, detail, and more vibrant colors versus other methods

JULY 24, 2024 - Shop Strange is pioneering the apparel printing industry by offering leading-edge direct-to-film (DTF) printing, an advanced apparel printing process that yields numerous advantages including a durability, vibrant colors, and a higher level of detail than other methods.

Shop Strange made its debut in 2012 and has become a go-to business for custom printing needs including apparel and promotional items. Schools, event organizers, organizations, and business owners all turn to Shop Strange for its trusted custom printing solutions. From concept to design to production, Shop Strange offers end-to-end assistance and services including screen printing, embroidery, promotional items, displays, and graphic design. The Shop Strange online designer lets virtually anyone create their design online, but prospective clients can also visit the two Shop Strange locations for one-on-one assistance.

Shop Strange has invested in direct-to-film technology and now boasts equipment in their production facility featuring laser guided alignment with air compressors, foot pedals, and interchangeable plates to allow for full customization in decorating a variety of items and formats with full color art. Direct-to-film is a highly sought after digital printing technology used mainly in the textile industry. The process entails printing designs onto a special film and then transferring the film onto fabric with a heat press.

Direct-to-film is sought after because of its exceptional quality. It is a versatile method that can be used for textiles including cotton, polyester, blends, and more. The prints are very durable and resilient, meaning they can endure multiple washes without fading or cracking. The direct-to-film process also yields an amazing level of detail and vibrant color as opposed to other methods. This method is being used more and more for customizing t-shirts, hoodies, bags, and other fabric items in small- and medium-sized production batches.

Shop Strange begins their direct-to-film process with creating artwork using special graphic design software. Then, the design is printed onto the film using the direct-to-film

equipment geared with water-based pigment inks. Adhesive powder is applied before the ink dries, and then either a heat press or oven is used for curing. Next, the cured film is transferred onto the fabric, and heat is applied to set the film. Once the film has been pressed, it is then peeled off, leaving behind the design.

“We are thrilled to offer our clients industry-leading printing methods such as direct-to- film printing,” said the team at Shop Strange. Clients can now contact either of Shop Strange’s two locations in Boise and Portland to request direct-to-film printing for all their custom needs.
