About the Author

Allan Hamilton started his working life as a janitor. He went on to become a Harvard-trained brain surgeon. He is a decorated Army veteran who led multiple high-altitude expeditions on behalf of the U.S. Army Altitude Research Division. He served as Commanding Officer of the 1986 U.S. Army Mt. McKinley Medical Research Expedition. His team spent six weeks conducting medical research while encamped on Mt. McKinley at 16,000 feet, with temperatures dropping to thirty degrees below zero. He participated in numerous design studies evaluating everything from skis to winter rations for elite winter warfare units like the Navy SEALs, Marine Recon units, and the Special Forces and served as a guest instructor at the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center. Hamilton is an avid skier and a member of the Western Division of the Professional Ski Instructors Association (PSIA).

Dr. Hamilton holds four professorships at the University of Arizona in Neurosurgery, Radiation Oncology, Psychology, and Electrical & Computer Engineering. Dr. Hamilton has authored five non-fiction works that have won numerous literary awards and been translated into several languages. Hamilton has worked for over 19 years as the senior medical consultant for the hit ABC TV medical drama Grey's Anatomy. He is currently at work on a seventh book on the human brain, due in 2024. His insights in non-fiction have helped to inspire educators, tech leaders, politicians, military strategists, filmmakers, and scientists worldwide. The author lives with his wife, Jane, in Tucson, Arizona, alongside their extended family, including their wonderful grown children and spouses and several beloved grandchildren who are all - thankfully - learning how to ski.
