Katie Faces Her Fears and Out-Sings a “Troll Queen” in Author Randi McKinnon’s Latest Children’s Book Masterpiece

By: Get News
“Katie and the Troll Queen” is a cute little story by Randi McKinnon, who, as a young kid growing up in Norway, believed in the existence of trolls and fairies.

Many kids are fascinated by fairies and mythical creatures. Their stories enable them to temporarily run away from the mundane world they live in and set foot in a mystical world filled with much fascination. That’s precisely the offer of “Katie and the Troll Queen,” a 2023 must-read written by renowned author Randi McKinnon.

In the book, Katie is asked to go and pick some berries in the forest. The young girl encounters the troll queen her grandmother had cautioned her about. The mythical creature engages Katie in a singing stint, and a troll boy steps in to keep score. The battle ends with Katie securing the win. She then finds out why her mom was not able to sing along with her, something they both enjoyed very much.

The author, McKinnon, is a native of Norway who happened to immigrate to the United States. She recalls not having some playmates back in the day, forcing her to make her own games.

"Most of my stories are fiction as I embellish on stories told to me as a child. Trolls, fairies, and the like have lived rent-free in my imagination, and those good old days are things I want to share with children," says McKinnon in an interview.

"Katie and the Troll Queen,” adds McKinnon, allows kids to explore trolls and enjoy an enchanting journey through their magical kingdom.

“Through this cute tale, kids become aware that all trolls are not evil. They are very, very business-like people. They will play with you, crack jokes with you, but the back side is business," sounds McKinnon.

McKinnon came to the United States from Norway in 1959 and settled in Oregon. McKinnon retired after working in the food and hospitality service for 40 years. Thinking retirement was boring, she knew she needed something new to hold her interest. This fueled her to take a correspondence course in writing children’s books through the Institute of Children’s Literature.

Readers who want to grab a copy of "Katie and the Troll Queen" may purchase it on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. They may also check out more information by visiting author Randi McKinnon’s website at https://randimckinnon.com/.
