Los Angeles Artist Leverages Instagram To Connect Musicians In 1,350+ Cities For Global Performance

By: Get News
9th Annual “Play Music on the Porch Day” to Unite Musicians from 70+ Countries in August 2022

Los Angeles, CA – Play Music on the Porch today announced the return of its annual worldwide “Play Music on the Porch Day” for an eighth consecutive year. Play Music on the Porch Day (PMOTPD) is one of the world’s largest collaborative concerts featuring music from artists in 70+ countries and over 1,350 cities across the globe.

“My goal back in 2013 was to create a global collaborative art piece as a conduit for a peace-making movement. I had no idea who would join. But each year its grown larger – even during the pandemic in 2020 – and it’s truly created its own momentum at this point. It’s a movement,” says Brian Mallman, founder of Play Music on the Porch Day.

“The pandemic has led to horrific losses for so many of us and day to day stress and uncertainty. But on the last Saturday of each August, this is a chance for us to join together, virtually, and relish in the soothing sound of music.”

Play Music on the Porch Day 2022

Date: Saturday August 27, 2022

Time: 24 hours (all day worldwide)

Location: 70+ countries and 1,350+ cities

Mallman initially grew PMOTPD using Instagram hashtags as a method for finding stringed instrument musicians from around the world. He then reached out to the artists via social media and explained the project. Every single day for a year Mallman spent some time using social media to learn about instruments and musical traditions from around the world. Play Music on the Porch Day has brought people all over the world outside to join in a global, shared act of creating music in the spirit of peace and connection.

“Music is a universal language. It gives energy to each and every person regardless of age, color, religion or whatever they believe in. It connects us all as one,” said Tinashe William Masangudza, a Zimbabwean singer and multi-instrumentalist from the Afro-acoustic band Gwevedzi. Masangudza and his band have played in PMOTPD since 2018.

From a band in Zimbabwe to a Brazilian opera singer – any type of musician or singer is welcome to join PMOTPD. Anyone can play or sing regardless of skill level. Some of the artists have said Play Music on the Porch Day is needed now more than ever, given the global situation.

Brian Mallman is available for select in-person interviews in Los Angeles and worldwide via phone or Zoom. Select international artists can be made available for Zoom interviews as well.
