Particle Health Extends Its Specialty Search Record Locator Service Capabilities to Include a Wider Array of Complex Health Conditions

Addition of Three New Categories - Pulmonology, Nephrology, Gastroenterology - Elevates the Reach and Impact of the Company’s Targeted Approach to Patient Data Search and Aggregation

Particle Health, a developer-friendly API platform for bi-directional healthcare data exchange, today announced that Particle has expanded its Specialty Search capability to address new set of complex health conditions: pulmonology, nephrology and gastroenterology. Specialty Search is a unique feature that makes it easier to get records from national and regional Centers of Excellence, which generate above-average numbers of siloed-off patient records.

Centers of Excellence commonly generate critical treatment data for patients with chronic and comorbid conditions. However, these sites may be too far from a patient’s home for a traditional API-based medical records search. Specialty Search queries relevant Centers of Excellence for selected patients, ensuring their most valuable information makes it back to their regular providers and care team.

Particle added these three new conditions where preventative treatment could make an especially large impact. Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is far-reaching, affecting the quality of life for approximately 37 million adults. Digestive diseases impact between 60 to 70 million Americans. Furthermore, nearly 37 million adults live with a chronic lung disease like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Often, these conditions require patients to travel out-of-state to seek care from a specialized Center of Excellence or multi-site care teams. In these instances, a standard record locator service (RLS) can have difficulty finding specific patient health records from the various healthcare providers across state lines.

With the expansion of pulmonology, nephrology and gastroenterology now covered by Specialty Search, Particle Health is supporting an even larger scope of providers treating complex and chronic illnesses allowing them to run a record search with unprecedented thoroughness. These extended search and data aggregation capabilities allow healthcare organizations to deliver more comprehensive care plans or specialized treatment interventions.

“Over 140 million Americans today are impacted by health conditions tied to pulmonology, nephrology, and gastroenterology. Particle Health recognizes the need for more comprehensive bidirectional data exchange capabilities to support these patients on their care journeys as each complex health condition is associated with specialized, data-driven care requirements,” said Troy Bannister, CEO of Particle Health. “Since our initial rollout of Specialty Search in November 2022, multiple provider organizations have already reported excellent early results in addressing expensive, preventable disease using these advanced data searches. We look forward to building off of this success to address the data aggregation requirements of even more illnesses, ultimately elevating treatment paths offered and generating better patient outcomes.”

At HLTH 2022, Particle Health launched its Specialty Search RLS capabilities with the goal of making condition-specific search for this patient data even simpler, starting with four health focuses: oncology, cardiology, endocrinology, and orthopedics. By empowering healthcare companies to seamlessly search the top national health Centers of Excellence in the United States based on specialized conditions, the offering is now able to ensure that the most comprehensive patient records can be collected regardless of where they originated, ultimately elevating the volume and quality of the data aggregated.
