WATKINSVILLE, GEORGIA / ACCESSWIRE / December 23, 2024 / Extra Special People (esp) is proud to announce the appointment of Steve Hollis as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO). A long-time advocate, mentor, and leader within the Athens community, Hollis brings years of experience and a deep personal commitment to the organization's mission of creating transformative experiences for individuals with disabilities and their families.
Hollis, who recently served as esp's interim COO, has been a valued supporter and mentor to esp CEO Laura Hope Whitaker for over a decade. Their professional relationship began in 2012 during a pivotal time in the organization's history when Hollis offered wisdom and guidance that proved instrumental in supporting the launch of esp's $3 million capital campaign.

Hollis is an expert on lean manufacturing and work culture and has many years of experience in sales, marketing, and manufacturing at Georgia-Pacific and other companies. He co-founded PPI Corporate, Change Partners, and South Dakota Partners and has won awards for sustainable product designs, worker friendliness, community involvement, and environmental and economic contributions.
As COO, Hollis will play a critical role in leading the quality of esp's expansion efforts, ensuring growth of existing locations while working to bring esp's services and programs to new communities. His leadership will be instrumental in helping provide life-changing experiences to even more families. Current esp locations include Athens, Marietta, and Rome. The organization will open its newest site in Savannah this January.
