Today is ENERGY STAR Day which provides us the opportunity to reflect on the need to continue efforts for energy efficiency and protecting the environment as well as celebrate our successes in and the benefits of energy conservation.
At Pentair, we help our customers conserve resources and reduce costs with innovative technologies. As a leader in smart, sustainable energy solutions, we are a proud partner of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ENERGY STAR® program.
Between 2005-2020, our ENERGY STAR certified pool pumps have helped U.S. consumers save approximately three billion dollars in operating costs,* which translates into 27 billion kWh of energy saved. This savings helped prevent the release of approximately 19.1 million tons of CO2, the equivalent of 4.1 million passenger vehicles driven for one year.** And with our Pool Pump Calculator, we make it easy for customers to estimate potential energy cost savings from switching to a variable speed pool pump.
In July 2021, new U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) regulations went into effect, requiring minimum efficiency standards for pool pumps, along with upgraded ENERGY STAR standards. Pentair collaborated with the DOE, EPA, and industry peers to implement the new standards, further advancing protections for our environment. Pentair is focused on delivering sustainable solutions to our customers and has set a target to further assess, design and commercialize our products for environmental sustainability to reduce our customers’ impact on climate change.
And, as a trusted leader within the industry, we also take an active role in providing education and training on energy efficient solutions, including online tools and an educational landing page available on Pentair.com.
We are also making strides to reduce our own environmental impact and are working towards our carbon footprint reduction targets. As energy use reduction drives greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions, we are focused on using energy more efficiently. As we work to reduce our energy use, our improvements include upgrades to: energy efficient equipment, lighting, HVAC and insulation. Our energy conservation efforts are also supplemented with our renewable energy strategy, including two manufacturing sites that are powered by solar: in 2020, the solar installation in our Pisa, Italy facility produced 1,121,556 kWh of electricity and in Milperra, Australia, the installation produced 329,060 kWh of electricity.
We invite you to read more about these efforts in our 2020 Corporate Responsibility Report and to join in the celebration of ENERGY STAR day.
* Savings are based on a weighted average annual kWh savings from the Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE) at $0.11 / kWh. Individual Weighted Energy Factor (WEF) scores and savings may vary by model.
