Item 5.02 Departure of Directors or Principal Officers; Election of Directors; Appointment of Principal Officers
 
 
On December 15, 2006, the Board of Directors of the General Electric Company elected Dr. Susan Hockfield, President and Professor of Neuroscience at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, to the Board of Directors.
 
The Board of Directors has determined that Dr. Hockfield is an independent director under the New York Stock Exchange listing standards and the Company's independence guidelines, as set forth in its Governance Principles.
 
The Board has appointed Dr. Hockfield to the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee and the Public Responsibilities Committee.
